DAY 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lagoon

To start this wonderful adventure of the Salkantay trek 5 days to Machu Picchu. At 4:30 a.m., our staff will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco. Then, take a 2-hour drive to the town of Mollepata where you will have a homemade breakfast. Then, continue your journey towards Challakancha, the starting point of the trek, where you will also meet the muleteers who will be responsible for transporting all the camping equipment.

As you walk, enjoy the spectacular views of the Vilcabamba mountain range. At noon, taste delicious dishes prepared by our local chef. In the afternoon, short walk to the impressive Humantay Lagoon (4,200 meters above sea level), admire the scenic beauty and take excellent photographs.

At 6:30 p.m., dinner and overnight at the Soraypampa camp.

DAY 2: Soraypamapa – Abra Salkantay – Chaullay

Today you will wake up among the enormous snow-covered mountains. At 5:40 am, have breakfast and then begin the uphill trek to the highest point of Salkantay Trek 5 days to Machu Picchu. From the highest pass of Salkantay, admire the majesty of Apu Salkantay (Apu = sacred mountain) and also visit the blue lagoon. Then start descending to Wayracpunku and take a short break to enjoy a power lunch.

After lunch, continue descending into the tropical forest, where you will appreciate the richness of biodiversity (flora and fauna) and finally reach the Chaullay camp.

At 6:30 p.m. Dinner and accommodation in tents.

DAY 3: Chaullay – Sahuayaco Beach – Llaqtapata

After the delicious breakfast, begin walking through the tropical forest, commonly known as the upper jungle. This part of the adventure is considered one of the best sections because you can see varieties of wild and domestic vegetation, such as orchids, begonias, coffee plantations, bananas, oranges, and more.

After 5 hours of hiking, take a short break for lunch at Playa Sahuayaco. Then continue along a beautiful and original Inca trail that ascends to the Llaqtapata camp. It is the best camp of the Salkantay Machu Picchu Trek 5 Days because you will spend the night in front of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, you will appreciate the beautiful sunset and sunrise and without a doubt you will have the beautiful panoramic views. If you are a lover of birds, mammals and orchids, this is the perfect place to observe.

At night, make a bonfire with all the members of the expedition. If the night is starry, you can see the Inca constellations.

DAY 4: Llaqtapata – Hydroelectric – Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes)

This morning will be fantastic because you will have magical views of the first rays of the sun that will illuminate the top of Huaynapicchu Mountain and the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

After your energetic breakfast, explore the archaeological site of the small Inca city of Llaqtapata. It is still 80% covered with vegetation and, around it, you can observe the diversity of flora and fauna. If you are lucky, you can see the spectacled bear or the Andean bear.

After all, start descending a zigzag path towards the hydroelectric plant, where you will have your last lunch, and then say goodbye to the muleteers and the cook.

From the Hydroelectric Power Plant you have two options to get to Machu Picchu town: the first option, walking along the side of the railway for 3 hours, therefore, there are many small stones on the way, but it is a spectacular route.

The second option is to travel by train for about 48 minutes (train departure time: 2:17 p.m. or 2:50 p.m.).

Once you arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo, check into your hotel and at 6:30 p.m. enjoy your last dinner at a selected restaurant.

DAY 5: Visit to Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

Today is an exceptionally important day because you will visit one of the new 7 wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. In fact, this is the place most dreamed of by all travelers who visit Peru.

After breakfast at your hotel, go up to the Inca city of Machu Picchu according to the time assigned on your entrance ticket, you can go up by bus or walking. The guided tour inside the lost city of the Incas will last 2.5 hours and if you have booked a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, climb on your own after the guided tour.

After all, take the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, have lunch on your own and head to the train station. Take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy station. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting to accompany you to the city of Cusco – Hotel.
